Kings of Greece

Otho I
Reigned 1833-1862.  He was chosen at the London Conference to become the King of the newly independent state of Greece.  He surrounded himself with Bavarian courtiers and lived much beyond his means.  In 1843 the military forced a new constitution on Otho.  In 1862 he attempted to do away the constitution and was forced to abdicate when he failed.  Son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria.
Georgios I
Reigned 1863-1913.  Son of King Christian IX of Denmark.  Elected to succeed Otthon I.  Introduced a new constitution in 1864.
Konstantinos I
Reigned 1913-1917 and 1920-1922.  Forced to abdicate by the allies as they suspected him of being pro-German.   Restored to the throne after Alexandros died, he was again forced to abdicate in 1922.  Son of Georgios I.
Alexandros I
Reinged 1917-1920.  Son of Konstantinos I.

Georgios II

Reigned 1922-1923 and 1935-1947.  Even though he was the eldest son of Konstantinos, the allies passed him over to rule Greece since they thought he was pro-German.  In 1923 he was forced to leave the country and Greece became a republic.  He took refuge in Romania and then in England.  In 1935 he was restored to the throne.  Once again he was forced to flee Greece in 1941.  This time though it was because the Germans and Italians has invaded.  He spent most of his time in England.  Staying there until 1946 when he returned to Greece after a referendum showed the country wanted their king back.  Son of Konstantinos I.
Pavlos I
Reigned 1947-1964.  Son of Konstantinos I.
Konstantinos II
Reigned 1964-1973.  In 1967 the military took over the government of Greece.  Having failed to stage a counter-coup againt the military Konstantinos fled the country.  In 1973 the was formally deposed, and a referendum in 1974 confirmed this.  He has spent most of his exile in England. Son of Pavlos I
